My mom has a 67 Firebird thats primarily a show car. And as you may or may not know, when its in show mode indoors, the battery needs to be off. Problem is, she wants a system put in it soon, but she isnt technically sound and every time they cut the battery off, Ill be re-programming the radio.. Is there a system out there that will supply enough juice to retain the radio's memory for a couple days maybe 3 at a time?? Im not planning anything special, just a matched 5.25 set, couple 6X9's in the rear.. if they will fit somewhere, amp, and 1 10" sub. Ill be customizing the trunk, and integrating all necessary components. Since this is a 9.5/10 show car.. itll be a lot of fun, and challenging...

most manufacturers make a fast set radio now Eclipse does it automatically as soon as the power is restored with new alpine units you hold a button for 5 sec and it auto programs
Both the alpine and the eclipse have great sound as well
I have the eclipse in my mustang and the alpine in the ferrari both auto programs work excellent.

That would work, but you could also run another battery, and just the draw of the stereo would not kill the battery in 3 days time.

that all depends on the size of the stereo also you would have to have it isolated from the starting circut if you were going to leave it hooked up also it would have to be seperate from the other battery or they will ask you to unhook it when you enter along with the other battery. Another thought is to put a large cap on your memory wire since that is the only one that needs juice to keep the stereo memory

Ive thought about the cap idea, I have a few laying around from back in the day... Although, I wonder how much juice it pulls.. maybe Ill do some experimenting with a simple switch and a 9V battery (switch it to auxillary power before the battery is turned off) As far as the auto programming, thats not what Im worried about, its the Bass, Treble and Mid controls Im worried about.. Getting calls weekly... "Ken, my radio sounds like shit again" I can hear it now...

those are all run off the same memory wire shouldnt draw more than an amp or two...it should say in the specifications area of the manual or you can hook it up and see how much it draws by measuring current draw on teh car battery while it is off

Why do they make you disconnect the battery?

Make a connector to plug a 9v battery into the cigarette lighter. I've seen it done before but I don't know if it would last for 3 days. I don't know if they'd allow it either since it's technically still a fire hazard.
