Agreed.

Half the people that wear them have no idea what they are supporting, all they know is that it is "cool."

in some ways I agree. But overall its a good way to raise money and awareness for all the different cancers and diseases out there.

I have livestrong because my aunt works in the healthcare field and she told about about what huge help it has been, so I wanted to be apart of that.

The breast cancer one is because my grandma who died last summer survived breast cancer twice (once in the 70s, once in the 80s) and another good family friend died of the cancer.

and the lukeminia (I have no idea how to spell it) because I used to be really inolved with the st. judes hospital and during my senior year I did charity work to help out.

It's like those one bracelets.. the What Would Jesus Do? I always said.. We Want Jack Daniels... If you really want to support something, donate money to the cause because everytime you buy a bracelet or one of those magnets on your car I bet like 1 cent goes to the actual cause, if even that.

i bought my breast cancer one from my roommate's sorority at school. It was $2... the sorority kept 50 cents of it, a dollar went to the charity and the other 50 cents I think was cover the cost of making the bracelet or something like that.

Wait! Is there really an STD called SCURVY?

Wait! Is there really an STD called SCURVY?
It's not an STD.
Scurvy is the clinical state arising from dietary deficiency of vitamin C (ascorbic acid). Historically, scurvy is an ancient disease. The Egyptians recorded the symptoms as early as 1550 BC. Epidemics were witnessed during the Renaissance era (16th-18th century), at which time scurvy was the scourge of the sea explorers.
In the US: Currently, scurvy occurs very rarely in the United States. Patients who are elderly or alcoholic and who subsist on diets devoid of fresh fruits and vegetables are vulnerable. Infants on restrictive diets because of medical, economic, or social reasons are vulnerable as well. Occurrence of scurvy is uncommon in those younger than 7 months.

roadracingworld action fund. proceeds go where they're supposed to. I bought 10 bracelets, but i don't wear them. Who gives a fuck if the people wearing them are being trendy their money still goes to the right place. I also donate to the injured riders fund but they don't give out bracelets.

Pretty ignorant for someone that knows nothing about livestrong or these other charities to say the money isn't actually going to it, or that it's stupid to organize charity funds to raise money supporting such causes as well as to complain about people wearing the bracelets and showing their support. It's just like the WWJD bracelets i'm sure, I mean, like, probably like none of that money even like goes to Jesus, ya know?

They're non-profit organizations, not some sorority stealing money from the organizations so that they can get wasted and stuffed by some drunk of the opposite sex with degraded standards. That's pretty damn low of them to take 25% of the cost that should be going to supporting the fund, and I highly doubt that was authorized.

The greek living department is a couple people from each sorority and fraternity, it's not the organizer of the event. This is a non profit bracelet and all proceeds are intended to go to the charity, I'm sure them taking money for their anual blowing of the football team was not approved by livestrong.

The representatives consult with employees from various divisions of the university. That's how they are regulated. It's all a big joke, just like the sororities and fraternities themselves. That's all beside the point of the neigh-sayers and their ignorance pertaining to organizations that raise money for charity. And the selfishness of people like this sorority stealing from those funds.

sororities aren't all bad. I looked into my roommates, and they do alot of charity events and teach you responsibility and tenacity. theres alot of dramas, especially with 30 plus girls in one room at a time, but i guess you gotta take the good with the bad.

Like I said, this is beside the topic. If you haven't been in a greek association then you know nothing about it. If you consider their charity events, where they take a percentage of the money to fund their boozing, good, feel free to hold that opinion. I, however, do not consider that teaching responsibility, tenacity, or anything else other than dispicable greed.
