I got a guy who works up here with me that just moved up the road from Gritty's. he drives a VW jetta, I am going to see if I can carpool with him. 25 bucks a week each should get us back and forth, that saves me about 80 bucks right now

I usally don't even pay attention to gas prices since I'm filthy stinkin' rich but your little thread made me wonder. So I went down to the local gas station and I discovered that regular was only $2.59. That doesn't seem too bad, also considering it's in the rich, touristy section of New Hampshire. Then I was kickin' it with the honey that owns the place, and she told me if I needed to fill up I should do it now because she'll be raising the prices a whopping $.29 come this afternoon when the delivery truck gets there. I try not to use gas though, I use diesel fuel to get me to and fro.

I seriously hope your joking and realize that its not a shortage of oil, its a shortage of refinery capacity and refineries being down in the gulf. As well as oil ports not being open. Yes there are some drilling rigs down in the gulf, but OPEC has increased output and we have released oil reserves. Refining it is the problem and I am willing to bet prices will stay like this through oct.

For all you people that are mad now, just wait. The prices you are seeing today are impacted by monday and yesterday and wholesale gas was at 2.49 then, its now up to 2.69 last I checked. Be prepared for 3.50 by Friday

Don't let rage get in the way of common sense and general comprehension of economics. This IS because of the hurricane. We are under a limited supply and supply and demand that people will pay a higher price when needed hence driving prices up higher.

Oh wait, I forgot who I was talking to. Nevermind

I guess becky isn't reading the fine print. Just another lost soled american who reads just the bold print headlines. Refineries like jay said earlier, are the cause. The cause for the refineries being shut down is due to the hurricane. I do believe that 9 refineries have been shut down in the gulf coast. Read the following paragraphs to come on the articles with bold headlines becky... then you'll get a better understanding. There are dedicated 24/hr news channels on basic cable. Check it out tonight at home. You'll see what jay is reffering to.

BeckyB

Let me put it to you in a way you would understand.

You have 60 kids in your town that need to go to daycare

You have 3 daycares, but each one only can take 15 people

That leaves 15 kids without daycare

Now parents that don't have a daycare are going to start offering more money to take their kids, and the ones that get booted are going to offer more in return right.

Its the basic principles of supply and demand becky.

Hope this helps

verticaljay

Here is another one, I found it on sl, someone was saying to stop complaining because you pay more for milk. I got disconnected before I could reply

Since when do you go through 20 gallons of FUKKIN MILK in a week.

You would think that if you had to, you can drink free water right, there is no free gas!

How is that a comparison at all! Yeah keep listening to people trying to rationalize a basic economic principle.

I would love to stab the person who came up with this comparison in the eye with an ice pick.

and that is general comprehension folks, that comparison didn't come from Nate OMC it was released a long time ago by the media.

yes i was joking...its not all the camel jockeys fault.....now why do they put refineries along a coast line that is known to have major trouble with hurricanes? some times i dont understand this country. And you know, opening up the reserves isnt really gonna help the price much, but maybe stop it where its at.

I doubt it will even do that. Essentially we are still using the same amount of gas / oil and operating on a diminished refinery capacity, even more so then prior to the hurricane. We are creating a deficit of gas at an alarming rate, hence the reason for the price going through the roof. If we don't have there refineries at full capacity in the next few days, it is going to begin the huge downslide of the economy. Consumer will begin to become reluctant when spending randomly and begin to conserve drastically just to be able to afford gas.

Seeing how the situation in the gulf is right now, I doubt we will see gas below 3 bucks until mid 06

i doubt you'll ever see it below 3 again. All we are doing is catching up with all the other markets...its around 3.50 a gal in canada and over 3.50 in Europe.

See there is a difference here though, we are the worlds largest consumer. If we cut back on spending and driving because of the cost oil exporters will drive the cost of raw oil down to attempt to ramp up. Its really pretty cyclical.

We can't be compared to Brits and The fucking french (relax people Im french canadian or something like that) because with out us, half of the exporters would not be pulling in as much as they would in revenue, and that includes cartels and the governments. You don't really want to piss off a cartel now do you.

There are other issues that I could bring to light but I don't feel like writing a book today
