They arent consistent and predictable like clutchin is. Once you get the feel for clutching it up you can bring it up right where you want it everytime without gaining much if any speed at all.

i also heart power wheelies :D
but in the game of stunting you need to know how to clutch em up! you will be able to do a lot more tricks bu clutching than you will by powering them up

I don't hate power wheelies, just not my style. I can see all the guys with 1000's doin it like its nothing, but I love clutch pop'N
which is best to learn how to wheelie with, power or clutch them up?
lately i've been trying to power them just a little bit but it scares the crap out of me when my steering gets all light at 50 mph. do you eventually get used to that or what? :(

MY friend adam wrecked his 04 r6 power wheelieing. Most people dont like them because when your up you might lock your wrist like adam did and then either flip it or 12 o' clock it and risk losing it (which adam did). But to each is their own, some people swear by power wheelieing and some people swear by clutch wheelieing its whatever floats your boat.

power wheelies are fucking stupid, honestly if your power wheeling you dont know how to ride period.
I remember my first bike, I didnt even know how to ride but I understood the concept of a wheelie.
Dump the clutch was the only way to go. I dont care if people think im a dick but you shouldent be power wheeling at all its not safe and it just shows no talent. Sorry hate to be such an asshole on this subject but I hate to hear that fucking word power wheelie
power wheelie. i just joined just to say that to u cbo. just to say power wheelie. fvcking power wheelie.

I agree with CBO, Power wheelies suck. They show no control and where I am from the streets are to dangerous for that high speed shit. Get Control then you ncan really ride them out.

Im confused, cuz i like to chase the front tire on my FZ1 but i clutch it to get it up.
So when you say power wheelie, do you also mean chasin the front tire or just not clutchin it up, or do the 2 go hand in hand?
Cuz i've clutched my bike up in 3rd gear before and put the front tire down at over 100. So i am i being one of those power wheelie guys by chasin the front tire?

powerwheelies = no clutch, just throttling up the wheelie = gay
clutch wheelie = all clutch, controlled = sweetness!
what you did was clutch up the wheelie, you didn't do a power wheelie. But you didn't get the the balance point, because you were speeding up, and dropped it at 100mph. Get that front wheel higher!!

power wheelies into long ass coasters are hot!!
Gregg V has a nasty one...tire is about a foot off the ground right up to redline then he yanks that bitch up into a coaster...sick as hell
I started doing power wheelies when I first started doing wheelies, I don't hate'em, but don't do'em anymore.

You see... my thing is this. I am a big fan of big smokey burnouts and going stupid fast in a straight line next to another bike. and when this happpens there is unavoidably some tire hovering. and if i get a little tooo throttle happy or im running anything bigger than 750 there's more than a little tire hover. So in that case(other than the fact im dragracing, which i know is retarded) are powerwheelies so bad?

First of all, power wheelies have nothing to do with clutch or powering it up? Power wheelies are wheelies that use the power of the engine and rpm's to keep it up, usually till rev limiter... almost everyone blasts off when they first start.
I just learned clutch wheelies last weekend. Prior to that It was always inconsistent power wheelies. Granted if you know what you are doing power wheelies may be fine. But once I learned how to cluth it up, I found that method to be much smoother. Also I found I could pull it up at much lower rpms.
So to sum it up, clutch wheelies rule. Now I just have to learn to find the balance point.

I WILL SAY IT LIKE THIS POWER WHELLIES ARE FUN SOMTIMES IF U WANNA GO FAST, AND LOOK KINDA GANGSTER WHEN YOUR FLYING PAST A CAR ARE SOMTHING BUT THERE DANGEROUS IF U DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING AND U WILL NEVER BRING YOUR STUNT GAME TO THE NEXT LEVEL WITH POWER WHEELIES U CANT CONTROL THEM ALL YOUR DOING IS ACCELERATING PUSHING THE BIKE FASTER AND FASTER IN ORDER TO KEEP IT UP.YOUR A BEAST WHEN U CAN CLUTCH IT UP AND ROCK A SLOW CONSISTANT WHEELING WITH OUT REALLY SPEEDING UP ALL U HAVE TO DO IS FIND YOUR BALANCE POINT AND U CAN ROLL A 10MPH WHEELLIE FOR BLOCKS THEN ALL THE COMBOS AND STUNTS FOLLOW.CLUTCHIN IT UP IS THE WAY TO GO 4 SURE.BUT I WILL STILL ROCK POWER WHELLIES CAUSE I LIKE EM HERE AND THERE JUST FOR OLD TIMES SAKE LOL. Since when do power wheelie's have anything do with using a clutch or not?
(Pow-er Whee-lie)...excelerating to keep the front wheel in the air, using the power of the bike to stay up.....

That's the way its always been. Power wheelie means doing a wheelie of the bikes OWN power.
Clutching is just that.
What you are describing is called chasing the wheelie. Accelerating to keep the wheelie up is chasing a wheelie.
Technically, your talking about what all wheelies do. All wheelies use at some point its own power to do the wheelie. Why do I say at some point? Well if your doing a coaster then its obviously not being power to stay there but at some point in time it needed power from the motor to get him high enough.
Ya dig?
edit: I like power wheelies. I like clutching too but it does take more skill to master clutching than just powering it up. It doesn't matter to me though. I just feel it out. Sometimes power sometimes clutching.

power wheelies are dangerous because the throttle is PINNED getting them up.
....
snigg
10-13-2004, 08:36 PM
i thought power wheelies were wheelies using no clutch to get it up. ie. bouncing it, or just rolling on the throttle quickly. whereas clutch wheelies, obviously you use the clutch to get it up.

and if im right about power wheelies, well i power up my stand ups and ride them 1mile+...but i also clutch first gear slow stand ups/first gear sit downs/spreaders/stagger stepped standies/standing on the seat in 2nd gear too. i think clutching in the way to go, but ive just always bounced my regular old stand ups.

when i got my first bike earlier this year (03zx-9r) i was in decorah, ia. and not a single person that I rode with up there could ride a wheelie. so I tried to be the first, i dropped a tooth up front and started to get the wheel up and soon everyone else was doing little wheelies. that was fun and all for up there... then I came down here to see my friend Jeremy brandt and his 02 r1 and he was riding shit out from 70 to 120mph and clutching it. just the fact that his wheelies were twice as high makes me a believer in the fact clutching it is the way to go.... That being said I now have a 750 and I power up in first if I wand to do a wheelie, but I am slowly learning to clutch it.
my power wheelie:
I get going like 30mph and let off the throttle then I hit it and the wheel comes up. I ride it for a block maybe 2. put it down at like 75.
call me a bitch if you want but fuck it i like and will be better in the next year.
