All my films (12:00, Urban Street-Bike Warriors, Black Sheep Squadron, ect.) were shot with my trusty GL-1. It is the camera responsible for the infamous Urban Street-Bike Warriors "Look". The camera has been sent to Canon a few times thru the years for repairs but it is now time for a new one. I want a GL-2 next and intend to buy one before Stuntwars. I'm a Canon guy.
The new film is out at www.stonefilmsnyc.com
Thanx

The GL's are good but it really all depends on what you are filming or planning to film...
alot at night?
high number of cloudy / no to low sun days?
In full sun Canon is the shit, hands down. the color saturation is amazing. nighttime is another story though. Sony pulls really well in low light, as does the newer panasonics from some footage that i have seen...

Listen to this guy. The gl1 and gl2 are great cameras, but in low light situations the Sony VX2100 kills them both... I don't care if a gl guy comes on here and states otherwise,... The sony's kill in low light and are more durable. The vx2000 and vx2100 are the bomb.

and you need to listen to this guy cause he told you to listen to me... :goofy:
are you sure about more durable, i have beaten the ever loving crap outta the gl-2 and it keeps on going...even had a brunelle express train right into the front of the lense and not even a scratch...
but yeah woo is right on about those sony cams, good stuff (and i hate to say it cause i am a canon guy myself :flipoff: )and seemingly more versatile as far as shooting conditions go and i guess they can take a beating like a gl can :flamed: ...

This is a fact. In low light the Sony and that Panasonic shit on the GL. But to be honest with you shooting in "Low Light" is my not main concern. Good thread, thanx. Anybody hear anything about a GL-3??????

Drew, You make a very good point!
The reason why it helps me is that I got permission at my spot,.... after 5:30 or 6:00... So It seems like I am always shooting a lot of night or Dusk shots... I get some great shots right before and at dusk, but I always have limited time to work....

Just got a Sony Fx1 myself. Great camcorder with alot of options and hd filming on minidv.
I've used the vx2000 before, also a great durable camera. Like evryone's said, sony's seem to have better 'low light' filming. Not to take anything away from the canon's and panasonics. All great cameras, just depends on what you're going to be shooting. For me it's my sony and my g5 w/ final cut all day... good luck!

Hell yeah, I got a G5 and final cut 4.5. FCP is the shit. Are you using FCP5? If so, how do you like it compared to older versions?

this thread has been a huge help, after thinking about it, i realized i probably will be doing a lot of night shit, because thats when we mostly ride the streets, at night haha...so im leaning towards the sony vx2000.
anyways while were on the subject of editiing programs any one got any non macintosh recomendations? i have only expierince with adobe premier, but this was a few years ago so whats good to edit with and fairly easy to work with?

Yo, i just got my hands on FCP5 a few days ago :D . I needed it to pull the HD stuff off of my fx1 into FC. version 4.5 doesn't support HD. Anyway, haven't seen a big difference yet except for the HD support. You can find FCP5 pretty easy out there if you're interested!

I would look at getting the vx2100 instead. The 2000 is a good camera, but the 2100 has a few more options that you might want/need like zoom on the handle. Check out the specs of both.
And like 'southtown' said, Vegas is pretty easy and outputs clean video. That's what i used before i got my Mac.

Just got mine
I went with the G5 Quad. two dual core processors. I upgraded to 8 gig of ram. Upgraded hardrive to 1 terabyte, also running an external hardrive of 300 gig. upgrade video card to 512. and running a 26 inch HD screen.
PRograms-
-Final Cut Pro 5 Studio. Which is FCP, motion, DVD , and audio program also
-Stuidio 8- Flash, dreamweaver etc
-After effects 6.5
-Adobe Suite cs2- photoshop, illustrator etc
-Comubstion- (affects)
Those are main programs i am using for video/graphics etc
I def suggest a Mac, for anyone getting into editing, graphics etc...great machines

Im rockin the Sony VX2000. been so for 2 years. I love it. Its pretty much just gettin what is a good deal for you and has 3 ccd's and you will pretty much swear by it (in my opinion).
as for computer set up, I use:
PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8 processors
2 80gig hard drives inside, 250 gig external hard drive
maxed out ram
2 17 inch samsung LCD monitors side by side. (17's and 19's have the same amounts of pixels.)
Final cut pro 4.5
photoshop CS
etc.
and on the road I use my Mac G4 PowerBook.
I also have a lil' canon Z70 with a fish eye for some random sneaky stuff..
Good Luck man.

i edit/record on a windows console
pentium 4 3.5 processor
2 gigs ram
2 250gig hd's gonna get another 300 gig external soon
256 ati vid card i forget which one but its nice
19" monitor and use 27" tv for playback
2 dvd burners
as for editing i use strictly avid products for big projects and use premier/aftereffects and vegas 6 for the smaller stuff
avid express pro hd
avid 3d
avid fx
avid dvd
avid pro tools LE with m box and 24 channel berringer soundboard for more imputs
avid is hands down the best available program to edit with period on win based console its just extremley expensive and not so user friendly
i like fcp for mac based but i gotta use what i have available
gonna go get a mac as soon as i have 15 grand to drop on the console and progs till then ill keep using my win based console
anyone know were they need a vid editor/production supervisor i wasted 100 grand on an education to not find a job in my field in my area
