View Full Version : need help tank leaks

i got a tank off of e-bay about a week ago. it was alrady pre dented and looks good. the only problem is the lip for the gas cap is all f***ed up. i re-hammered the lip to get it a level and straight as possible but still leaks.
any advice? i was thinking about just getting a vortex cap and using gasket sealer to seal it up. any help would be great

i used quick steel on my tank and it works sweet.......

Put in an O-ring, use jb-weld, or buy a vortex.

MY SHIT LEAKS TOO... It only leaks when i do long stoppies and not all the time. I tightened the bolts up but i think its still gonna leak a little. I was affraid to put anything in between the cap and the tank for fear it would get down in teh take and suck into the throttle body. :eek:

i have a vortex cap (that still leaks) so i rana bead of black RTV around it to help seal it up..seems to be workin so far.

T, you just run it around the crack between the metal and the cap? I was afraid some might leak down in the tank, that would def clog up the fuel line.. hahahaha

[GO TO YOUR AUTOPARTS STORE CLOSE TO YOU AND PIC UP SOME SEAL ALL, ITS GAS PRUF SO IT WILL HOLD AND PUT THAT AROUND THE BASE AND YOU GOLDEN.,AND GET A VORTEX IF YOU WANT, CANT GO WRONG WITH THAT.

and yeah short, just put it between the tank and the base.
