View Full Version : learning the f4easy.... 1st gear newb shit

i recently picked up an 01 f4i, and must say.... i feel much much more at home on this bike than i ever did on my 929.
Ive only ridden the bike on the ice, but am confident in saying that i have bp (in 2nd gear) 100% on lock.. i can hold multi-mile wheelies across the lake only varying the throttle approx 1-5mph to accomodate ruts in the ice and whatnot. Yesterday i tapped tail once or twice, but i felt that i was just going too fast to comftably drag it.
What do you guys reccomend for learning the slow stuff? im thinking -1 +10, no 12 bar (id rather kill a tail or 3 than bust my ass again... had a bar on my 929, hit it crooked.....u know what happens next), idle mod/3000rpm idle, clutch it up, and let the idle do the work, and catch it with the rear brake. Am i on the right track? I dont have any "better" riders around here to coach my, so im kinda flying blind. What do you guys think for pressure? i think im going to try those new Dunlop D616's. So am i on the right track? any tips? sorry for being a typical newbie... just trying to get into the game.

i just just picked up that same bike. im goin with a 65 rear, streefighted including a 12 bar. i rode an f4 with that setup, was comfortable, and for pressure i ran about 10 psi on my 1000rr, goin to do the same with my 600.

thx for the pressure tip. i had a 74 on my 929 and it was just stupid. dont want to go that big again...

know i have a question, what is the idle cable mod, i thought all bikes had idle adjusters.

The stock one on f4i is more like a choke, the mod is explained on stuntlife in detail. Ordered my cable the other day 900rr cable from ron ayers $12.

On injected bikes the idle cable doesnt really open the throttle bodies. You take an idle cable off any old bike and you thread it into the throttle stop on the injectors. There are 4 benefits:
1. It only takes a quarter turn or so to get the idle where you want it.
2. Your high idle will have more torque, because its no longer being choked to get it that high.
3. You can turn the idle up as high as you want, easily. No handers in 3rd require about 8k idle.
4. You can run the cable out the top right side of the engine instead of the bottom left. Makes it easy to adjust without going into neutral. You can even turn it up in a coaster if you want to hit some idle shit without putting it down.

f4i stock cable only adjusts the flapper - not true idle up ... get a '96 900rr cable to add as a true idle adjust
-2 +10 is money gearing, I have -2 +5 and want to switch

i just took the idle cable off of my r6 and put it in the idle adjuster screw hole on my 04 gsxr750 but thats not what you are talking about with the throttle bodies?? do you have any pictures of where your threading the cable in??

you dont need the 900 rr cable just take the one off your f4i and move it to the top of your throttle bodies.
65 on the f4i :fingy
what happens when you ride miles across the ice in a bp whoolie and hit a soft spot :shrugg
thats what i would worry about :shrugg

yah idiots you dont need a new cable, just un screw ur stock one, trim down the soild metal at the end of the threads, its about an 1/8 of an inch long needs to be about 1/16, and screw it inot between the throttle bodies and ur good to go

I was told by a few ppl it wont run right w/out the stock one where it is. Fuck it it was only $12 for the rr one

when you take the stock one out, it idles real low and on some it wont run untill you put the new one in.

rock stock gearing, and u're hittin tail in 2nd gear on ice? that's scary, so obviously you have brake control, and aren't you hitting your pipe first? i know my pipe was killin me.. but that's gone now :)

it was the plastic shit under the tail.. i only hit it probably 3 times, and to be honest, i got on the brakes a little too hard, brought it below bp, and had to play catch-up to keep the wheelie going.
sadly the bike might be going :banghead: but hopefully ill be able to pick up another before the season is over.
