Remove the hose from the crankcase to the air box.....replace with longer piece of 5/8 heater hose ( I ran mine up along inside of the frame under the tank and out above the radiator on rear brake side), about 6 inches off the crankcase cut hose and install a PCV valve, at the end of the hose attach a small air filter (apc., etc.)....this is how I did mine, works great so far if I have any problems Ill go with plan B.....

so what about the airbox...did you just leave it unhooked, or did you cap it off? so it's hose from crank case, about 6" up install a pvc valve, and run it up out (to where?) w/ a air fitler on the end of it? (or is the airfilter for the hose from the airbox?)

thanks for the help...i dont think i really need to do it for my skill level, but it cant hurt to be safe.

Havent touched the air box, if anything ill put a piece of tape over the hole or something..............I ran it up along inide the frame under the tank and out over top the radiator on the rear brake side (right side) and caped it off with a small filter I got at Pep Boys

ok i talked to a buddy and he told me that hydro lock is when water gets in the intake. this causes hydro lock because the water is not combustable. if oil gets in the intake it is combustable and will just burn up. yeah it will take a couple high rev "blow outs" to clean it up but it will not fuck up the motor.
when he gets a motor that has been sitting for a long time he puts oil or tranny fluid in the cyl. to free up the rings(if the motor has low compression).
so if you put oil on the motor to free up the rings then their is oil in it when you get it running and just burns up.
so i wouldnt really worry about it to much. im not any way
and he says just dont fall over that would make it safe if you dont beleave him :shot

Oil in the air box will hydrolock your motor, if only a lil leaked into your air box yes it will burn up, but when your dumpin that much oil it will not burn it causing the motor to lock.......if your not on the bar alot then I wouldnt worry to much bout it, what I did took maybe 20 mins to do, rather be safe then sorry......

The tank and the black plastic piece (On the rear brake side) that connect to the front faring is all you should have to take off to do this......

while painting the bike last week i picked up a pvc valve, and a small breather...i used the stock hose, caped off the airbox, and just put the breather on the end of the pvc valve, and left it under the tank area (pleanty of space) seemed to run a lil different, but it was for the better not worse

Everybody should do the vent mod its common sense--Oil+Intake=disaster. I've seen motors seize up because of this.
And are we sure a PCV valve is safe for this? I just ran a tube all the way up to the radiator cap and put a filter on the end. I've been 12ing the hell outta this thing for the past 4 months--not one drop of oil.
Reason I ask is because the pcv is a one way which means the motor can only breathe one way which sounds restricting to me. The purpose of the vent is to provide an UNRESTRICTED "atmosphere" where if any positive or negative pressure in the motor accumulates, the breather allows it to relieve itself--am i correct?
Im' sticking with my setup its been working great--last thing i want is to have to replace gaskets or motors.

thats the same breather im running too, but the pvc valve lets it breathe, but won't let oil out...i suppose you could screw up and put it on the wrong flow direction, but breathe through it, and put it where it breathes in, but you can't blow out...that way it breathes, but oil can't get out..just like on a valve cover for a car....if this causes a problem in any way i can just take off the pcv valve
any input?

I had the same problem with my 03 r6. so i drilled the valve cover and tapped it ran a hoise from it out to the front behind the windscreen and put a small filter. and blocked the one on the back of the motor off. if you need pics let me know.
