Today we are going on a little road march. Its relativly flat with a slight incline at the beginning. Lying ass Drills!!! Only thing that would top it off would be to end up at the "Disco Hut" at the end. They told us M.P.'s drive everywhere. Then why the hell did we have to do those hills???? On top of it...on a FTX...we had to evac out because no one told us until an half hour before...the Chems were going to gas the whole Grid we were in. That would have been fun.

wow, part of the reason i want to join is just to do basic, looks like fun, and from wat i understand its not that bad now, u can have ur cellphone, and coffee and other shit...there trying to make it easier so more people will inslist....so now instead of having a smaller better trained army, we'll have a bigger pussier army....great

Z ur absolutely right! with these all these new lowered expectations you have a chance of making it! seriously tho basic has its funny ass moments but if you are not in shape or an idiot you will have a hell of a hard time. I was always one of the top 5 in the company physically and i was platoon guide for most of basic so i was offered my Ranger contract and got to pretty much boss everyone around for the rest of the time. :hitler:

z-unit.....i hope your kidding about the "next major war". most grunt units in the Marines are on a 7-7-7 rotation. meaning 7 month workup, 7 month deployment, and then 7 month stand down. and then its starts over again. just ask any grunt out in Al-anbar province (Ramadi, Fallujah, Hit, Haditha, Al Qaim, etc) if they are not in a war....they get mortared (82mm, 120mm), rocketed (107mm, RPG), IED, VBIED, SVBIED every single day. the last time i went over (last summer) the battallion i was with lost 49 Marines KIA, and over 200 wounded. The Army is seeing the same shit up north of baghdad and in baghdad.

My point is, if you really want to see that shit, join the infantry in the Marines and I gaurantee within 1 year, your ass will be sitting over there getting shot at, mortered, rocketed, suicide bombers, car bombs, IED, and all sorts of shit.

I am AGR which is Full time National Guard. I am a 21 B (Combat Engineer) but work full time as admin/supply NCO. I am with the 224th Engineer Battalion out of SE Iowa. Let me ask you this. How many marines on here that have been in the Al Anbar province in the last year know who the 224th Engineer Battalion is?? Just wondering. They supported the 1st and 2nd MARDIV while over there. I was rear det for them but all my best friends were there. Its good to hear that all of you who have been overthere made it back safe and sound.

You can even go there in "peace" time and its like that. It fucking sucks there they can keep that fucking shit hole. I was there in 98 and was shot at shot back. bomb threats and all.

ok wait until AIT for your cell phone, and that also depends on what company you get. When i went through, we couldn't even have a cd player (this was years b4 the whole MP3 player thing) until AIT and if you got caught using it when you weren't supposed to, it was taken away until you left.

in all honesty don't take anything with you, when you get there you will buy all the necessary stuff you need. When you get there (reception) you will go through your stuff, and turn in any contraband items (asprin, condoms, knives, pretty much everything). When you get to your basic training company you will lock up your personal bags in the platoon wall lockers and YOU won't have the key either. Once you start getting passes (usually AIT) you might be able to get civilian clothes, we were not allowed to, if you went off post you had to wear your dress uniform.

It has gotten more lax lately but if you like your cell phone, leave it home and then if you can have it mailed to you in AIT.

notebook with addresses is fine. they won't take that away. No, you can't have your car, you will get around by walking or by taking the cabs that are all around post.
