any one help with custom avatar

i need help..im tryin to make a custom avatar and i got it to the right size but i cant get the file type to change...its a .bmp(bitmap) file and it needs to be .img or one of the other files for avatars

save the gif on your computer and then go here http://imageshack.us/ ....hit browse button and then select the gif on your computer....select the "hot link for forums".....enter link in the section for your avatar... you need to delet some stuff from the link once you have caopy/paste it.....it should look like this ... http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/3631/f24qz.gif ... now the size of the gif is 17.1 kb ... so it may be too large of a file for it....depends how admin has it limit too...
