1. the alternator only puts out whats asked of it, basically. if you had a lot of lights and shit it would read higher.

2. when theres a decent load on the alternator, it will put out more when you rev the engine

MikeM
01-02-2008, 04:25 PM

you need to test it on a machine that can vary the current draw

Take the alternator off the truck and have them test it in their little machine. On the vehicle the alternator will only flow as much current as is needed to keep the bateries topped off. All the extra energy is converted to heat by the voltage regulator.

Not a bad deal, but I bet they close at 5 or 6.

It is most likely a rebuilt unit done up to put out more amperage. Bring tools to do the swap in the parking lot so you don't have to drive all the way back up to get the core charge back.

DO NOT EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, BUY A STARTER, ALTENATOR, OR OTHER ELECTRICAL DEVICE FROM NAPA! They rebuild their own shit and do a piss poor job at it. Autozone/Advance sell starters and altenators that are rebuilt by the oem like bosch, delphi, etc.

the thickness of your previous oil was effecting the trucks starting?

A couple of times it wouldn't start at all until I pluged in the block heater for about 20 minutes. It would crank over and not even try to fire, or it would run for a split second then die. Look up HEUI injection and see how thick oil keeps the injectors from firing. Looking at the 15w-40 rotella oil that was left in my oil change bucket it was the consistancy of maple syrup at 5:15 pm today when it was between 15 and 20 degrees.

Happened for the first time ever sunday at around 7 pm. It had to be plugged for 20 minutes. It happened again on Monday at 3pm and had to be plugged for 10 minutes. Since then I haven't let my tuck sit for more than 2 or 3 hours if I couldn't plug it in.

One of the thoughts that rattled around in my head last night when I was trying to fall asleep is that taking off the mechanical fan on my truck and replacing it with an electric fan would be a good idea. The fan does nothing at speeds over 40mph other than waste fuel. At idle diesel engines don't produce much heat so slow speed towing (under 40) of heavy shit for extended periods of time would be the only potential problem and I don't do that.

1/2 the year in my area the fan is not needed at all.

interestingly, i dont have that channel 11

i put out the word to see if CW11 is a real channel, and appearantly it is on one of the more popular cable systems here. So yeah, millions of people saw that embarrassment.

Vehicles equipped with these fans have recorded gains as high as 17 HP and 20 ft.-lbs., with a 2-3 mpg improvement

It's a big fan. and the blades have a wicked pitch to compensate for the lower engine speedand still give adequate airflow.

I guess the fan has a viscous coupler and an electric clutch. Not worth the $500 for marginal gains.

I think if they legalized weed the price would skyrocket so dealers would still be able to do bizz.

i think the price would stay the same, eactly the same

until 4 months later when everybodys crops are ready to harvest, then the price will drop quickly.

Not true, it would be cheaper, but would also be taxed.
wow. that's cheap.
That might be old numbers though.
well, since i started paying rent to someone other than my mom, my savings hasnt been growing like it used to. At this point im no longer making any progress towards a future goal.

You live below the poverty line for your area, what do you expect? Come out to the midwest. Cheaper living and the same/ more pay.:thumbsup

Remember to register republican so you can vote for Ron in the primaries. Some states have fucked up rules about only voting for your party's canidates in the primaries. (or is that every where?)

You know they would tax that shit out of it, then by the time it gets to the dealers after all the middle men it would be high. Maybe you could get it cheap at walmart

Killswitch takes the same kinda theme in their video but it's funny.

Have you ever seen them live? Those guys are hilarious. The guitarist was wearing a cape and talking about taking women back stage and punching them in the vagina repeatedly.
