Proof toledo is boring:
area attractions in Toledo such as COSI Museum, Toledo Zoo, Toledo Museum of Art & Glass Pavilion, Toledo Mudhens Triple A Baseball Team and Seagate Convention Centre.

Our museum us actually world renowned for something. The Zoo is ranked high for seomthing special I think as well. The mudhens are huge here, everyone goes to games and parties hard downtown. We are going to opening day. Otherwise yeah it's boring. But I would take it over detroit any day.

Everyone on the forums recommends a VB and gauges first. but I really want the MPG savings asap .... hmmmm what to do what to do

I don't have gauges and haven't blown anything up yet. You don't need gauges unless you are hard core towing (8,000#'s and up) with the chip on a 60HP+ tune.

That is my rationale as well. I will probably get the chip with the 80hp economy, it will have the smoke setting too but i wont really use it ... sweet ... so Valve bodie and chip ... then i need to get lacey to buy me the oil bypass filter setup ....

and the chain would be fucked. Sprockets are cheaper than chains.

How do you figure?

The most common problem with chains is the stretch. You will get less stretch with a steel sprocket. The repeated pulling on the chain and chain adjustments causes the chain's subcomponents to physically elongate, and the distance between any two roller surfaces increases. The distance between teeth on the sprocket doesn't elongate the same way, and the result is that only one roller is taking the majority of the force from a sprocket at any given time, instead of sharing it equally among the rollers in contact at that instant. This causes the chain to elongate and to wear at an even higher rate, and causes the sprocket teeth to start wearing unevenly (forming the typical wave pattern). With a stronger sprocket this will happen slower, as well as the steel or TI sprocket won't fail due to the chain like an aluminum one would.

scott3824
03-20-2008, 02:13 PM
Why do you think sprockets from the factory are steel?

Zuki750
03-20-2008, 02:59 PM
The rollers on the chain have to wear. I'd think they'd wear less up against aluminum than steel.

The factory uses steel because it is cheaper. They could care less about how long the chain and sprocket last.

scott3824
03-20-2008, 03:20 PM
The distance between the roller bearings increases because the pins and housings holding them together wear. A steel sprocket won't cause this to happen any faster.

Once a chain starts stretching the trailing edge of the sprocket teeth receive the majority of the wear, this increases faster on aluminum sprockets.

Niner

How does the coefficient of friction between the chain rollers and the sprocket have to do anything with sprocket wear. Isn't that why the chain has rollers in the first place?

Where is your data to support this? I don't take anyones theory on what is happening unless they tell me their theory on what is hapening, the specifice test set up they used, how they gathered the dats, and what the results are. For example. I say the sky is blue because the sky reflects the color of the oceans that cover 2/3 of the worlds surface. It makes intuitive sense, but is still dead wrong.

If you simply rubbed the two together then yes I would be wrong. But you know better than that. The rollers don't wear away. The chain stretches and the distance between the rollers becomes greater. Maybe the coefficient of friction isn't that important in this discussion as I thought. A chain is also lubed, so CoF of 2 dry metals is not an accurate basis either.

Steel wears better than aluminum. But it also wears the chain more. It's a trade off.

i refuse to believe that nags would let his chain get that bad

look at the frozen links.. i dont even let my shit get that bad

that would ruin a steel sprocket almost as quick, if it didnt then it would be grinding away at the rollers. that chains bad news

This is where I usually go snowmobiling.

From beginning of the 2007-2008 snowfall season through midnight March 20, 2008, the National Weather Service in Caribou, ME has recorded 182.5 inches of snowfall. This morning's measurement (21 March) puts the total at 184.5 inches. This seasonal snowfall total is the greatest amount ever, since records began in 1939. The previous record of 181.1 inches was set in the 1954-1955 snowfall season.

184.5 inches equals 15 feet, four and one-half inches.

Should Caribou continue to see additional snowfall at the normal climatological pace for the remainder of March, April and May, Caribou would end the 2007-2008 snow season with 200.8 inches of snowfall or 16 feet, 8 and 13/16 inches.

Scooter:

The slide pins can be very problematic on this vehicle between 99 and 04. If you generate a lot of heat, it can be easy to cook the upper boot and have issues in a short time. Or if the brakes are worked on, not have the boots fully seated.

I usually recommend that people check the slides every year or two just to avoid the expense that you've gone through.

The pin / boots have been through 3 stages of modifications. The last one with the O-Ring is to provide some slide resistance, just as the original design had. (The first series was like the rear boots, internally mounted in the caliper brackets). To me, it wasn't all that necessary.

But if you had trouble getting the pin and O-Ring in, there still must have been some rust build-up in the bracket pin bore. I use a ball hone to clear them out. But use silicon caliper slide grease, not petroleum based grease. Pet based will cause the boots to swell a little, losing the seal at the ends.

For pads, I recommend the Performance Friction Z pads. A little higher friction, more rotor abrasion, good noise suppression, and good wear life.

I use the OE rotors (not Motorcraft). Dealers have both. But a high priced rotor from other parts stores are also OK. The OE rotor is going to have the best machining. Slotted rotors will not get you anything, unless your using the OE pads. As people more to PF or Hawk pads, they have a higher metallic content and do not gas as much. You need the slots for gassing at high temps.

Frozen rotors - if you feel the need. Get the rotors hot enough and the treatment goes away so it's a waste of time.

I've 100k on my F-350 with PF pads, OE rotors, and no pulsation. But my slides work well. They were just checked two weeks ago.

You may find it easier to get rebuilt calipers then rebuilding them. Also make sure the pads move freely in the brackets. Sometimes the aftermarket pads have extra paint or burrs on they and the pads hang up a little. The effect is the same as having the pins rust up.

scott:

The effect is the same as having the pins rust up.

we would definately come....probaly with kids though. anyways, don't worry about sending an invitation to us....do whatever you can to save money. weddings are kinda tricky....is her family going to help out with any costs? it's also cheaper to order invitations online than doing it with a company....also look into making your own, like print and scan them yourselves...all you have to buy is the fancy paper. also with the head count of everyone you guys invite, the rule of thumb is 1/3 of that won't show.....but sometimes they still do...i've seen weddings where hardly anyone that was invited didn't show and then i've seen weddings had everyone show up and they had to make numerous beer runs.

my sister's wedding is in July. they are having the same issues with the guest list. They went down from 155 to 125 but said it was hard and 75% of the people are on our side of the family so my sister's fiance asked her to cut it down some. They are trying to save money by only have 3 hours of open bar instead of 5 hours and by picking flowers for the wedding that are in season. It's so heavy all it would ever need is chains.

Remember the smaller KTM version with the blown motor I posted up about a year ago?

I think I might be due for a new truck soon. Max condition is now below 95% and its dropping noticably.

A. High gears for +5 top speed - will keep me fast enough for another week or 2
B. Supercharger - raise condition up to 100. probably net me 3 mph top speed
C. New truck - I can currently afford an 07 truck, after buying the TTE in 2.5 hours

Im thinking supercharger. Besides top speed issues, my condition is deteriorated to the point where i cant haul 51k when im 5% off
and then an 08 truck in a week or 2. maybe even on sunday night

2005 Black DRZ 400 SM.

3x3, DJ Kit (stage 2), Steel Braided Front lines, Tires have about 350 miles on them (Michelin Pilot Powers). Acerbis hand guards, Renthal Fat bars. Home made axle sliders. Billet tip on Exhaust... keeps the bike quiet but not sounding like a sewing machine.

Bike is in Farmington Michigan.

Bike is in great shape. Greatly maintained. Has been down in the dirt only when I was tooling around on it. So due to this, it has a couple of battle scars. Nothing big, most people don't notice. They are all plastic scars, so, if you REALLY want, you can buy new plastics for it as they are not pricey.

Oil changed every 1000-1200 miles. About 4k miles. I have the title in hand and am looking to get $3600.

The pics were taken before I changed the rear tailight to an Edge this off season...

Reason for selling, I am looking to buy a house and need to free up some cash... I know, it sucks, but I'll go bikeless for a year or two, then get another one.

PM me for more pics or to see it.
