Locking up the wheel with 1 finger

I got my handbrake temporarily working and tried it out last night. It feels very weak, to the point its not usefull. It wouldnt bring seat standers off the bar even with the idle below 1000.

If im just cruising along, and i click it into neutral and try to lock up the rear wheel, i have to use all 4 fingers squeezing as hard as I can, and that barely locks it up. It shouldnt be that hard, right? People say they can lock it up with 1 finger.

My master is an 05 gix, with a full length lever. It goes directly to the stock rear caliper, I dont currently have a footbrake. I bled it real well, it feels solid, and even with 4 fingers I cant pull it all the way to the grip.

So that leads me to the possibility that my system is good, but my brake pads arent gripping enough. Im thinking I may have got some brake juice on them during the bleeding process. I think im gonna go get another set at lunch today and test that theory.

that sounds logical.

you could bleed a lil more to see if theres bubbles in there, but you said it feels firm, so there shouldnt be.

see if theres grooves in your rotor.

Get a vacuum bleeder, it works wonders. I bought one for $50 and the difference is night and day.

my friend has the gixxer master and his works like a champ. i would keep bleedin yours and check all your banjo bolts

if you didnt brake clean your rear rotor and caliper when you finished, it wont work wirth a shit with all the excess fluid on it...make sure that ish is clean.

Just got back from a very cold test and tune session. It was the brake pads. I hosed the whole thing down with brake cleaner, put in new pads and it locks up the wheel so easily now.

You were the closest so I guess so. The rotor was actually clean before, but there was a very noticable spot on the right side pad.


Ya wanna hear some shit? I actually bought pads from the dealer since I was all out of spares - 45 fucking dollars - my brake pads cost as much as the rest of my handbrake setup. I was expecting to get ripped off, but not that bad. Now I remember why I dont go there.

i stock up on pads on ebay, ebc HH every now and then you can get them for about 20 a caliper

oem pads for me... i gotta replace my first set today.. and mike i think that might have been the problem with my set up before.. damnit.. maybe i'll give the single caliper another shot... off to the garage!
