Ive done numerious forks seals but I found out that for the 636 you need a few special tools. A spring compressor and a spring stopper.......anyone find a way around this?.....I can do this in my sleep and I dont wanna take them to a shop and get raped, any advice would help....

Not like the 636....Ive done GSXR's, Hondas 900, 954's, Yamahas.......never needed a spring compressor or any other tools, just a fork seal driver

NO, there IS a way around it!
On the bottom of the fork, look right above where the axle goes, there is a 10mm allen bolt, looen that before you unscrew the top cap. then when you loosen the top cap so that the spring is exposed, you can take that 10mm allen out and the fork will come completely apart. The seal is then easily accessible and no special tools are needed.
I've done 01-04 GSXR's this way and JUST did a 03 636 this way!

So you remove the entire cartridge/spring/cap in one piece to remove the outer tube to replace the seals?... after new seals installed & outer tube on and cartridge torqued, how do you bleed them before you snug up the cap??????
Thats a cheap azz way to do'em, I'm sure with all the time ya have into removing and reassmebly you'll have a set of forks that feel like pooooop...
get the tools---my.02
different strokes for different folks, but I may try john's way on a junk set of 1k gixx forks and see how it ends up..I always gread fork seal swap on invert's.....

I was thinkin about doing that and tried it but already unscrewed the top cap and the 10mm bolt just turned.......so all I gotta do is screw the top cap back in and do the 10mm bolt first and it should all come out 1 piece?

I just don't know how you'd bleed them doing it that way... Setting fork oil height wouldn't be shit, but you have to pump the shit out of the rod to get the air out.....

Tried it that way, wounlt work for me....the 10mm bolts just turns (unless you have to impact it off like I had to with a set of Yamaha forks) but will not comecompletely out..... :wtf: ......the days of the simple fork seals are long gone I think :Argh:
