a) Introduce a random delay between the time they apply for a posting account, and the time they can actually post with it
b) Limit all new accounts to a special "newbie" posting thread for the first 24 hours.
The spammers are most likely automated; either of these two options would effectively stop the spamming scripts for being able to "post and run".

Too bad... those options would do away with the need for email verification (as suggested in another thread).
I didn't look very much at vB's site; maybe upgrading to the current version would offer more ways to block the spam?

update vb with the latest patches?
make registrants type in a 4 digit code shown in an [untextbridgable] image?

no you just block the @jwab.com email address's they are using
its in the banning features. that is the only email addresses they use.
i have NO more problems.
i actually think its cool my board is that big that they are coming...LOL
