1/4" should be ok. mine are about 1/8"...if that. just put the bike on a front stand and a jack with a block of wood under the bike and just let the jack down slowly once th upper/lowers are loose.

im thinking it ll be okay but lowering it 1/4 in shouldnt really effect how the bike steers either. you put the jack on the bottom of the header?

are your forks inverted? because that is the only way i would put my clipons above the triple. with regular forks i would only put them undeneath because on most bikes the forks get really close to bottoming out. and on my gixxer they did bottom out. and if this is something you are nervous about it could be a very good reason why you are trying to sqeeze a 1/4 inch or so.

drill a hole in that block of wood and place it right underneath your oil pan with the drain bolt in that hole, and with the rear of the bike on a swingarm stand. most oil pans have like 20 fricken bolts in them and are pretty sturdy. i like my headers fine the way they are.
