Well, im to the point where i can ride idle pretty decently, and think its time to start scraping.

What do you guys think is a better approach to learn? coast onto it using throttle/engine braking/rear brake or dipping past 12, and pulling the clutch in, 'falling back', and catching with the rear brake?

the second way you said is coasting into them... using engine brake and rear brake isn't coasting....?

using engine break and rear brake is the way to go, just get to the point where you can tap the tail and bring it right back up to bp, and then tap it again in the same wheelie. After that, then start pulling the clutch in right as you touch the tail down, to drag them out. Then after that, start pulling in the clutch before the tail taps, and do coasters.

dont pull the clutch in to early or you will slam and not only become unbalanced it will work the hell out of your subframe

def agree 100%......just use engine brake and rear brake if you wanna scrape....you got that shit son now go do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i wanna see some pics....and im drunk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!! yea!!!!!!!!

So today was the first day with the 12bar... and im no whoolie god, but i gotta say, that its unbelievable. 2 weekends ago i couldnt touch tail to save my life. Last weekend i hit it, and then it was on... and then this weekend i had a 12bar, and it was like no big thing to tap it.

So heres my deal. I can get it onto bar (fairly smoothly), but i find that within even 5 ft or so, the motor is really luggin down bigtime. Im starting the scrape at about 20mph, give or take.

When are u guys pulling in the clutch? Today i was dippin past BP, then pulling it in, and trying to ease it onto the bar, but found myself constantly using to much brake, and then dropping the front end damn hard.

So whats the secret? Fuckin sucks when noone else around here stunts, and can see me do it, and be like "oh shit man, its no big deal, this is what ur doing wrong...here try this"

Help me outttttttt. i feel like its right there, but just bearly outta reach.

whats your idle at ? if you have a kinda low idle and drop on the bar without usin the clutch its gonna slow down alot . the friction of the bar plus the engine brake will damn near stop the bike . if your just tryin to tap teh bar then dont touch teh clutch . if your tryin to scrape or drag the bar it will go further wit the clutch in . if you cant do coasters yet just hit the bar like normal and the weight of the bike is on the bar pull in the clutch and stay away from the brake untill you want off the bar . hope this helps ya a bit

idle is around 3-3500. I dont have coasters ON lock by anymeans. ive done a dozen or so in the lot, and havent done too bad at them... 15mph or so, and could hold them for 20ft or so.

Ive never really heard or seen any posts of a 'steps of progression' for scraping. I can tap all day long, every time i try. I want to really learn to scraapppeee though. So ill give your method a shot, of pulling in the clutch once im on the bar.. thanks mannn

the only way your gonna get long scrapes w/o turning your idle up to 5k and pulling along slow, (GAY), is by starting the scrape at a faster speed. i learned to tap w/ engine brake and rear brake, then once i got that i started bliping past BP and pulling the clutch in using only the rear brake to softly tap down, then once i got comfortable with that i started going faster and trying. worked out well b/c it helped me with coasters too. you want longer scrapes.... go faster. be careful though b/c that shit will bite you in the ass!!!good luck bro.

oh yea. i dont even run a bar, im all exhaust.(undertail)

I only get to hit the lot once a week.... and so far ive been gettting shit pretty quickly. First 2 weekends i got used to slow stuff and brake control. 3rd weekend i could scrape tail consistantly, 4th weekend i learned to scrape bar every single pass.

I tried coasters and then dipping ontto the bar, but i found myself losing track of what im doing. I have a hard time concentrating on everything, and sometimes find myself using too much brake, then going to blip it back up, forgetting i have the clutch in, free-rev, and the front end comes crashing down.

Im not too 'scared' to start faster scrapes....ive been hurt before, ill be hurt again..im okay with that as long as we get it on video:thumbsup

So which method do u gues reccomend most? dip back, then pull in clutch, or coaster-into-scrape?

any tips on how to really do it? other than just practice, practice practice....... How fast should i be when i dip past BP, I guess my biggest thing is just gotta learn to not use so much rear brake.

For long scrapes I bring it to the bar at like 15mph then accelerate on the bar to like 20. faster your going the more stable it is on the bar.

you got a vid of this? just being able ot hear/see someone else do it would be a huge help.

no vids sorry, trick is to hit bar at 15+, your reflex is to hit the brake when the bar hits but dont. I ease into the gas then hit the brake when it gets wobbly. farthest Ive gone is 4 or 5 hundred feet, havent wreck scraping yet,but Ive had a few close calls

coasting into scrape is throwing too many variables into the mix too early... coasting into scrape smoothly is actually harder than just doing a regular coaster. just get going pretty fast in first gear, ease it back slowly with brake and engine brake and as soon as you touch the tail down pull the clutch in and let off the brake completely. oh and lean back
