Hey guys, I'm kind of new to wheelies, but I feel pretty confident on my 600RR bike, but I just started doing some "clutching wheelies" but I heard that it damages your clutch and chain so I want to learn how to do a wheelies by using shocks. And doing "sitting wheelies" using clutch in 1st gear scares the heck out of me, it always seems like i'm going to flip, even when I'm getting about 4' off the ground :banghead:
I tried using my "compressing shocks and giving throttle meathod" in 2nd gear (ppl say that in 1st gear I can flip), but going about 30mph I can't get the front wheel higher than like 1' off the ground when I compress the shocks and hit the throttle. Do I need to be going faster or do I need higher RPM's?
And for a rookie, is it better to do a "sitting wheelies" or a "stand up" wheelies??
And for "stand up" wheelies, what are the crucial or important things I need to know before attempting, I just want to be safe and make sure i don't miss something important and ending up in dropping my bike... :-S
For all of you PRO's and experienced riders, please help a N00b out, Thanks :patriot:

any decent wheelie will start by clutching it up......... easiest method in my book? staggered, 2nd gear, and clutch it up. Put your left foot on the passenger peg, right foot on the normal front peg (covering the rear brake), pull in the clutch, rev it up...to say,,,,, 5 or 7k, and slide the clutch out. Fine tune it till it works best for you..more revs, less revs...fast clutch engagment, or slower..... its all about practice.

I flipped my first wheelie doing a 2nd gear wheelie by bouncing it and gassing it... learned that lesson real quick and also found the back brake. Just take your time and learn to clutch it in first gear covering the brake until you get used to it. Main thing is practice and not to be afraid... i'm sure everyone on here has crashed and now that i know how to wheelie i crash even more trying to step my game up thats just how it goes. And if it doesn't work out for you and you wanna dump your mint 600rr for real cheap let me know haha

But does using "clutch" for wheelies loosens up your chain and it's bad for your clutch?? How long can I do wheelies before I will have to replace my chain or my clutch?

Breaking your chain or clutch is the least of your worries if you just rev it and dump it your clutch will be fine and yea your chain will get loose after a while but its not terrible just tighten it up and by that time you'll wanna change your sprockets anyway just go for it

It might wear out your clutch basket a lil bit faster but you don´t have to matter about that it will hold up long enough, and if your clutch plates wear down faster depends on your skills hahhahaa but usually people fuck up their clutch much more when trying burnouts instead of clutching up wheelies.
Your chain gets the same stress like when gassing it hard so there´s no difference.......at least if you´re not ready to invest some bucks in parts you shouldn´t try out stuntriding!

Hehe I hear you, but I definitely want to stunt, so I am ready to spend some money, but I want to get a extended frame sliders with a stunt crash cage to protect my plastics. :twocents: :unf:
Ok, But lets say if you do wheelies a lot and it wears out your clutch basket, how soon will it needs to be replaced? Once a year? And how will I know when it's time to replace the clutch basket or the chain? What are the cues that I need to be looking for to know what needs to be changed? :shrugg

naaaa, just like Gix said, you can ride it like forever, you might have to replace it earlier than usual but usually you can use the basket for 60000+ miles, so don´t care about your material just do it!
If you´re looking for a great cage for the 600RR check out www.sickinnovations.com great solid quality, great price, great customer service

Ohh one more thing guys...On a lot of STUNT videos I've noticed that most riders have their rear tire little bit deflated...is that something that I need to do or is that just illusion of the weight transfer on the rear tire??

i run like 20 psi, but if you are just doing 2nd gear standups you don't need to drop your tire pressure at all. normal street pressure is fine. oh and some people run as low as 10-12 pounds, but that's a bit low if you ask me.

on my 04 600rr, with standard role up to 40mph, hold the clutch in and rev up to about 10/11k and dump, in first will bring it up weather ur sitting on the tank or on the tail, u shouldnt flip it but to be safe start at about 40mph to 7k, then 8k, then 9 etc till u find ur ballance etc. in second the 600 aint got much power, so at about 60mph sit right back on the seat, stand up leaning back or stand on pilly pegs clutch it to the red line near enuf and dump it should come about an inch or so, try moving further back on the seat etc and try again. i would say standing in second on the rider pegs is the best way, back arched and just clutch it. anythings possible!

nah, the 600rr are a bit slow on the wheelies in 3rd and up. 2nd i found that 50mph at 6k rev slip it up to 10-11 rev and voila, wheelie this is staggared stance
Jbooboo
06-10-2007, 01:55 PM
When I 1st started I was concerned about speed and rpm's.. I would rev the shit outta my bike and clutch it and it still wouldn't come up as high as I wanted.
Point is I think alotta newbs tend to cut the throttle after they pop the clutch. If your not working on idle I would keep your tire pressure above 25 psi.

Ok I'll try it out at 40mph+ by slipping the clutch and I will let you guys know it will go. Thanks for the tips bro's!!!!!
