good question and I'm glad I logged on when I did. I am running a 98 900RR, with -1/+17 as far as easier wheelies go, you bet your ass BUT the balance point is going to harder to find if you don't find it with your stock sprocket like I failed to do. I literaly just came home from the "spot" and my bike is pretty trashed. I got on my first bike about 4 months ago, so I am definately new to the sport. I have been just tooling around with little stuff like highchairs (not highchair wheelies) side saddle, and small pop-up wheelies. Today was my first day of saying I'm going to be the best there is and I was proven wrong. The sprocket that I have allows for a dead stop pop-up at about 10 o'clock, but i get scared and drop it down. The only time I said I was going to try to ride it out, I hit the 12 bar, and it spooked me so I just held on never let go of the throttle. It revved like crazy and I bailed (landed on my feet) just in time to see the bike do a sommersault. The point is that with the bigger sprocket your throttle is going to be real touchy. If it werent for a broken clutch lever I'd still be out there now, but That's part of the game.

learn on stock gearing.....the only thing you need sprokets for is for the more advanced shit and even then a big sproket is competely unnecessary
everything can be done on stock gears, especially on a 600 because they have more gears already compared to the liter bikes
after you learn 12s, and idle tricks, id go with like a -2 +4 or -2+5 not too much more is really necessary for anything, unless you plan on doin highchair circles
ya i'm gonna wait till i get more good and so on
keep stock gears for now
thanks alot for your help guys !

Gearing your bike gives you more engine break. When u do tricks where u cant have your foot covering the break you need alot of engine break. Like highchairs and spreaders. When u arent traveling very fast doing a wheelies u dont have much engine break on stock gearing compared to a geared bike. Gearing is sort of a safety feature when u are doing those kinds of tricks.

Do keep in mind that those giant sprockets are harder on your engine. Those who run them have alot more maintenance. I however wouldnt try stuntin on stock gearing try something like down 1 on counter and up 10 on the rear

I own 03 954 and was thinking about gearing it. The bike has lots of power stock, but I feel I need more torque for higher speed wheelie as I've been unable to do much of a second gear wheelie. Do you have any advice on this?
Thanks

you just don't know how to ride brotha. No offense. But with that bike you could probably power it up in third with a decent bounce, and even clutch it in 4th. Don't need to gear a bike with a motor that big. That thing has enough power to wheelie you all day long.
