Yeah, im doing the LOW carb diet right now, but im not completely cutting carbs out. You gotta have a little bit of everything, like carbs and sweets, but in moderation. Just eat more fruits, veggies and red meat and chicken, and you will see the inches come right off. I have lost like 5 lbs in 2 weeks :D

I tried the atkins diet, and I lost weight, but I just got sick of eating all that meat! So now, I've decided to just eat less and Im eating low-fat foods. And, I cut out soda. It's been working so far. I work out too, so I've got a lot of muscle, and muscle weighs more then fat, so Im not concerned with losing "weight" but losing inches. How many other girls work out? If anyone knows of some really good ab exercises, let me know! Im going for that washboard stomach. LoL

Yeah cutting carbs out completely is not good, just have everything in moderation. Also, for those who love soda and gotta have it, theres Diet coke. It has 0 calories, 0 carbs, and they now have the diet coke with lime, it tastes soo much better. Exercise? Hmmm crunches and sit ups i guess, swimming and dancing is also good for ur bod :)

01-28-2005, 01:04 PM
Yea, I heard cutting carbs out completely was bad, so I still ate some carbs. But, I just got sick of the food. I use the ab machines at the gym, but sometime there are certain exercises that some people find work really well, other then crunches and sit ups. The machines at the gym at just like doing a sit up or a crunch with some weight behind it. I heard swimming was good for you, Im just not a good swimmer. lol.

Atkins
South Beach diet (like the atkins but a little more strict)
liquid diet
vegetarian
vegan (like vegetarian but more strict)
raw food diet
800-1000 Cal a day
All rice diet (it wasnt really a diet but I was poor so thats all a ate for like a month)

I'm always trying different things. I'm 5'8" and usually 130lbs. (thats what I am now) If I work out and regulate my diet I can be 110lbs in a month easy but that takes a lot of dedication and lately I've been partying too much.
What I've discovered,... pretty much as long as you work out and watch what you eat,... weather it's carbs, calories, veggies, sugar,... it will all work.

I can work out as much as I want though and diet until I look like a starving child, but my butt and my boobs WILL NOT SHRINK. I know if I can ever figure out how to loose some of my booty my boobs will probabily shrink to but then I just figure I'll get implants.

I don't really diet. I eat three meals a day but I stop eating when I'm full instead of eating everything I have. I used to eat when I was bored and I've stopped doing that. I don't drink much soda, only when I'm eating. Seems to work pretty well but I'm naturally not a big person. There is the chance of that tho, my dad was close to 400 lbs before he had gastric bypass surgery this year!

Tina
01-28-2005, 07:42 PM
400lbs, that's good that he got the surgery. I bet he is a lot more healthy now. There is a lady at my work that had that done. I was suprised to find out some places consider that cosmetic surgery. Ya know now that I think about it I think I'm the only girl or person for that matter in my office that hasn't had cosmetic surgery.

Yeah he's much better, lost 190 lbs! His insurance company actually helped pay for it which was good. It was definately something he needed to do because diets and exercise never worked.

Tomato juice and carrot juice and a TON of water

every now and then I would blend up fresh fruit and icecubes if I was craving something sweet but only once or twice a week TOPS

I think I lost about 15lbs in around two weeks when I did that one.

Honestly you name the method of loosing weight I can honestly say I have probabily tried it and lost weight doing it.

cool, i want to lose about 15-20 lbs in the next month, month and a half....
i did the atkins diet and lost about 60 some lbs on it and i kept it off for about a year, i've gained a few lbs and i've been trying to get it off, and i tried the atkins again, but i've not been doing that good. for the past few weeks, i've only been eating lunch, nothing too big, and i've lost 5 lbs. but i don't think i'll lose much more.

some, i have 2 small kids, so it's hard to...mon-fri we'll go in my room and i'll turn on the radio and we'll dance around for about 30 minutes, then i do about 100 crunches....when the ground isn't muddy here i'm going to start running 30 minutes in the morning before work.

Yeah it must be a lot harder to find the time with two little ones. When I hit a plateau with cardio I find that weights usually help me get past it, or the liquid diet. And I'm not saying my diets are healthy or anything like that either I just know what I see works. My boyfriends always telling my how bad stuff is for me. But what ever works. 60 pounds is a lot you should be DAMN proud of yourself!

I tried Weight Watchers in high school....I lost like 30 pounds....I liked the idea you could have anything you wanted, just in moderation...I started when they did the points system and everything was a point value..Worked for me, I lost all the weight that I wanted to lose, and I still was allowed to eat carbs, meat, whatever I wanted....I think that's the main thing in any diet, eat anything in moderation....and exercise...as soon as I started exercising in combination with WW, I lost inches quickly..

Ever since I started working out, I've gained weight. Well, I've gained muscle. Nobody believes me when I tell them how much I weigh. I look like I weigh 110-115, but I weigh almost 140 just because I've gained a lot of muscle. But, I've actually lost inches. I just have stubborn tummy fat that wont go away, so I just started running, and Im hoping that helps! I just cant stick to diets. I suck. LoL. :goofy:

Diets are dumb....

Getting in shape is all about how much pain and effort you put into it.

I eat 5000 cals a day and still drop fat weekly.

Try eating fruit for the first 3/4 of the day.
Have a healthy dinner of your choice. (Drink as much as you like, god knows I can't go a day without a few beers)
Run twice a week.
Do weights once a week.

I could promise you, y'll start to look good fast.

I went to canada over Christmas break and I got too drunk. I fell at a dance club. When I fell, my knees and my feet went forward, but the rest of my body fell backwards. My knee made a "pop" sound when I fell. I couldn't walk right for 2 weeks afterwards. I've been in physical theraphy ever since! It is pain unlike any other lemme tell ya.

ouch... sounds like that hurt. did you tear anything? ACL? LCL? i've torn both ACLs- and I was the same way- trying to keep my weight down and lose weight while recovering. Try keeping your carbs to a minimum and eat whole grain foods and fruits for your carbs. It's really tough when you can't do cardio. When I was able to bike I did that... and lifted weights :) hope your knee feels better!

I think I'm the only person on the planet that did atkins religously and gained 5 pounds.
I'm 5'4, at one point weighed 104 now it's a lot heavier than that..
But once warm weather hits I'm sure it'll get easier to excercise once I can make it outside.

fad diets and pills are crap...there's no "easy" way to lose weight...plus you shouldn't ever measure yourself by your body weight because muscle weighs more than fat. I have a scale that measures my body fat and that's what I go by.

Tricks of the trade...don't eat large meals...snack about ever 3 hours throughout the day...stay away from pop (including diet cuz the sugar/substitude is not good), crap food, and high fat items. Always eat some type of protein with every meal (it helps your body digest faster and burns more calories). And a lot of people kill themselves working out in the gym only doing cardio...they don't realize that you'll lose weight twice as fast if you add weight lifting to the mix! Also, mix up your routine a bit so give your muscles time to relax so they can grow.

laura320

I've been a specialist twice and he has no idea what I did to my knee. He says I most likely tore my menicus (layer or cartilage between your joint). This coming up week is my last week of Physical Theraphy (of 2 months). I go back my specialist the 28th. I learn then whether I need surgery or not. Now, I can walk on it ok but I can't straighten out my leg all the way or bend it all the way. If I stand for too long I get shooting pains in my knee. Its such a pain. Thank you for the tips thou. I'm sticking with water and salads and I try to go to the gym alot. But I work alot and have 5 classes so its tough. At the gym I do squats with low weight to try to build up my knee. Its like learning how to walk all over again!

Thanks for some insipiration. How did you hurt your knees?

laura320
02-20-2005, 01:09 AM
wow don't you just hate it when you write somethign real long and then the page messes up... haha

yeah but if that specialist seems unsure... a second opinion wouldn't be a bad idea from a sports medicine orthopedic. have you had an MRI? it really sounds like you have a cartilage tear since it hurts to straighten your leg and the pain when standing on it. if i were you i would actually lay off the squats- even if you do them easy. for part of my physical therapy i did leg lifts with my leg straight- on my side. if that makes sense... it basically builds muscle tone again while not putting weight on the leg...

i know a lot more exercises- if you want them just let me know... i could probably find the exercise pages i used.

for diet part- the salads sound like a good idea. just make sure to keep protein a part of every meal and snack . since you are working to rebuild muscle you definitely need it. if you like to make smoothies or shakes i know of some good powder- that helps with muscle repair after workouts. a good site is bodyforlife.com and eatingforlife.com. those are all over the place when it comes to weight loss- but they really do have good tips. another good one is fatlosstips.com

anyway, i know thats a lot- hope it helps! :)
oh yes and i tore my knees up playing competitive soccer- two years in a row- so i decided to stop playing :) its all good though!

Miss Chievous
02-20-2005, 02:15 AM
I did get a second opinion from my regular doctor, but he was just as unsure as my specialist. They said my knee was too swollen to "accurately" know what I did to my knee, so they put me on an antiflammatory pill to make the swelling go down and sent me straight to physical therapy, that was 2 months ago. My perscription for the pill is gone and my doctor won't renew it so I just go to PT twice a week for 2 hours and take aspirin (alot) for the pain. I haven't had an MRI done. Everyone tells me I need one!! I had Xrays done, but I know I didn't break anything, so those are kinda pointless in my opinion.

I know what leg exercises your talking about. I do those at physical therapy. They really do help, but it hurts! I get alot of pain at the top of my knee cap when I do them, but they help. I actually do squats with my physical therapist too and he guides me so at the gym I do the same thing as at my appt.

I went to the websites you suggested and fatlosstips.com is very eye opening!! I made note cards! lol. What powder do you use? I tried WHEY protien before. It wasn't that bad- it didn't taste like powder. I love making smoothies and protien shakes. I drink alot of milk too, skim only. My mom actually has yelled at me before for drinking too much milk!

Thank you for the advice you are very helpful! I'm sorry to hear about your knee. Do you think you'll ever play again?

laura320
02-20-2005, 02:24 AM
the protein powder i use is called on's 100% whey protein. its in a black container thing and is 110 calories and has 23 g of protein per serving. its like 13 bucks for a big container of it at a smoothie factory. ive tried all flavors- and i think they are all good :) i drink skim milk too- and in those shakes ill put ice, skim milk, fruit, a little bit of peanut butter for flavoring with the chocolate mix, cool whip fat free is really good too. it depends on what kind of shake i want.

i know what the doctors mean about the knee cap being real swollen- that makes everything really hard.

those websites are really good. especially the fat loss tips one :) glad i could help ya out! and i really don't mind not playing soccer anymore- i play lacrosse for my school, its just a club team. now that im not playing soccer i have gotten to do all kinds of things and i really enjoy it :) hope your knee gets better!!!

Miss Chievous
02-20-2005, 02:45 AM
i'll have to try that protien. $13 is really cheap for them!! I've been paying $40 for mine! I hate the strawberry flavors for most protien drinks. Chocolate is the best and the Vanillas are either really good or really bad! But with that low amount of calories and high protien value, you can suffer threw the chalk taste! haha.

I used to always had fruit to my shakes too. With the vanilla I'd add bananas and strawberries and raspberries and it tasted sooo good.

Thats good you found something to substitute soccer for. I played for 7 years and it really does take over your life sometimes! Plus, its always fun to explore new things. I was really into Volleyball before I hurt my knee. Just the idea of getting low to the ground to hit the ball is unfathamable currently!! Lacrosse seems fun but I could never catch the ball in the net! haha.

Yea NYC is a pretty hoppin place for celebs! Maybe I'll see Justin Timberlake?! mmMMMmmMmmMm. That would make my trip!!

You've never been on a plane before?! I'm always flying somewhere... a couple times a year. All my friends live in different states so I'm constantly planning a trip to go see one of them.
