oh i see. I think the rubber hammer idea should work for you too. The only problem was that he forget that he had a lot of gas in it and the pressure made it shoot all over the place.

i was there when my friend dented in his gixxer tank and he used a rubber mallet. worked nicely, work slowly and dont hit it real hard. if you take your time a little bit and you can pretty much shape it how you want. On the other hand i had a friend literally take a brick and smash his tank in; he then thought that the brick wasnt good enough and proceeded with a cinder block lol! don't do that it doesn't turn out good. hope this helps :)

I put a phonebook on the tank and stomped on it, then rounded out the edge with a mallet. fits me perfect. I also put on a surfboar grip thingy, and it is mad comfy. I need the pad because my tailbone is broken and my legs go numb if I hit it right.

my shit came out pimp...i used a rubber mallet and took my time so
that it evenly dented all the way around. my gas cap is flat and even, and it doesn't leak. i've seen it done in almost everyway possible. just don't jump
on the tank with your feet like a drunkin monkey on fire. then it will come out like shit. start on the outside edges of where you want your ass to be,
and then work your way into the middle. like i said, worked pimp for me.

yo homie, Use a rubber mallet or call up drew. Lots of people fuck up tanks trying to dent them in cause they have no expirience

hey bo all kidding aside.....i was told usin a hammer or mallet u run a real good risk of tearing the metal on the tank?

Problem is R1 and R6 tanks are the worst to dent in because they are so rounded. Either try some crossed up endos to get it started or use a rubber mallet and take your time.

Now what about an F4I tank? Thouse things have an extra saport inside them at least thats what i was told. I tried to do 2 tanks and both of them cracked to the point that i just scraped them.

Rubber mallet works best, in my opinion.
I remember when CBO first used it and was showing me. "...dude my tank is so comfortable it is dangerous..."

Dont scrap them.. all you got to do if you fuck up is to pinch off the fuel line, put a little gas in there and then you toss a lit match in the tank, close the lid real tight and run like hell. That should pop the tank back out to stock position.

I saw Curt do mine , basically, stand on your seat while someone holds the bike for you or on the stand and do one hard ass stomp with your heel right on the gas cap, that gives it that nice dented in shape, then just either with your palm, your ass or a malet, shape it around, I'll post pics tomorrow.

yo j.c. How did you get your gas cap so flat, mine cant go any lower because the inside of it is touching the bottom of the tank., but its still not level with the rest of my tank.

I attempted denting my tank in today... LOL back to the drawing board if i cant get the JB weld to work for me.

Ive seen diff methods and heard of diff methods alot i tried by beating the cap down in first... didnt work out so well as you can see. I think im goin to give it the stomp method if i have to get a new tank.

The dent job is great and it fits my ass awesome. With alittle bondo it'll look good as new. Except that big hole in the middle may cause problems if i cant get it sealed

nova that hurts to look at, my tried and true method is gimme a 12 pack and let me jump on shit...works fine, everytime i used a mallet, shit got ugly... beers and jumpin is the way to go :hitler:

I used a phone book and beat it with a hammer... But also learned now that F2 tanks have alot of reinforcing.... hopefully things dont get ugly again next attempt.

The drop is not that bad, I do it all the time for people who need their tank dented and it usually comes out pretty sweet. The problem with the bondo is if you do a drop while riding it will crack the bondo and flake off.... I tried to repair my tank that had a hole in it. I welded it up and then covered it in bondo but the bondo didn't hold

The guys in new york.do it a different.
one guys sits on the bike and makes sure it wont fall on a side..and another stands on the cage or on the sliders.and jumps up and lands on his ass on the gastank.and than just fix it up..with a hammer..

Herb

If I do that to mine, can I still run a super sick tank bra ?

03-14-2005, 01:22 PM
The R6 tank sucks...i went with a rubber/plastic mallet, but getting the fuel cap to stay level with the rest of the dented surface is tough...i had to JB Weld the sheet metal hems around the fuel cap...still leaks a little too...looks like it's time to find another cheap, fucked-up tank on ebay.

However you decide to do it, do it slow....that's what she said!
