I'm relatively new to wheeling. I got a 04 gsxr 600. I've tried powerwheeling, but it seems that I really have to gas it, but still struggles to get up. I've been trying to clutch it and that works a lot better. I havent gotten that high yet, but its progressing. Only thing is that the bike seems to be acting funny now. I know it CANT be good at all for the bike to dump the clutch. It seems now that when I do dump it, the bike wont seem to have power or something. Here's a step by step thing of what I do when I try to clutch it:
1)Bring the bike to 20 mph in first gear
2)Squeeze the clutch, rev the rpm to about 8 then dump the clutch
Now the bike pops up, but its seems like the clutch is going bad or something. It'll just seem to shit out on me when Im startin to go up. Just today the bike started to vear to the right by itself as I popped it. Anyone got advice on that? Is the clutch started to get shot?

Also, how do you bring up the front end when your already cruisin at around 40-50mph or high way wheelies? Do you just drop it down to 2nd-3rd gear and gas it? Or do you have to dump the clutch as well? I tried to drop down to 2nd gear when I was going arounf 60mph, but the bike just shook like crazy! Or is it just harder to do on a 600 cuz its a smaller engine? Would buying a new sprocket and chain help? Thanks

Dude you have some legit questions, but man it sounds to me like you need to take a little more time learning to ride before you get all stunt happy. I'm not trying to be an ass, just don't want to see you get hurt or total your new bike.

on the other hand, cause if your anything like me you'll still be out trying this shit! get that six in second gear (don't just slam it in till the rear wheel locks up or you go into a slapper) cruise at about 8-9000 rpm's "stand up" either both feet on the front pegs or left on the rear give the front forks a little squash and as soon as you sink that front end give it more gas! guaranteed to come up! keep on the throttle until you get the height you want then slowly ease off! if i were you i'd stay away from the first gear pow pow's there a little touchey (move on to first later) 2nd gear bounce ups are the easyest safest way to learn IMO!

Clutch is definatly the best way to get it up, but you arent there yet work on the power's for now until you get comfortable with balance, throttle and brake. after you've perfected the pow move on to clutch.

just take it real slow, don't go for BP on your first good wheelie just slowly very slowly take each one a little higher and longer, you'll thank me in the end. you'd be surprised what 100 power wheelies can do to your game.

Anyway, good luck, be safe and keep us posted on the progress!

try gettin a rear spocket a few teeth more than stock, find you a nice road with no traffic, practice till you got that shit down pat. Just be carefull

Thanks for the info. For some reason I find clutchin to be easier. I went out messin around again and felt less comfortable with powerwheelin as apposed to clutchin. I tried powerin in first and second and just seem to have less control while im quickly gaining speed while Im trying to gain leverage with the front tire. I also felt that there just wasnt enough torque to bring the front end up in second, maybe in first, but not second. I find it pretty easy to just cruise at 20mph(5-6rpm), squeeze the clutch, rev up to about 7-8rpm, and just dump it. The bike pops easy. My question is, is the initial pop going to dicifer the height of the wheelie, or can I just pop the front a little then bring it up by squeezin the throttle more?

you pretty much have to get your height with the initial dump (kinda depends on where you are in the RPM's) but you usually can get it the rest of the way up with a little gas.

if clutchin feels good to you than you might as well keep doing it, just take it slow!

i bet that six'll power up in third if you worked the gas just right. i can power up my 636 in third at around 85 mph by the time i'm at BP just a little over 100! i only clutch up second, third is to fast for me to trust my clutch skills and clutchin first is to slow for me with no cage or 12 bar to save the bike.

Honestly man, don't worry about fucking with gearing right now. And I highly doubt your clutch is going out on you. Is your clutch lever, and cabled all adjusted properly and tightly? Could be the culprit.

What do you mean by my lever and cable adjusted "properly"? I tightened up the clutch so it would grap quicker, so that I dont have to squeeze the lever all the way down, just a bit so I could do it with my two fingers.

04 gsxr 600 will wheelie for days, but with your novice questions 'n such, id get to ridin it a lil more before revin up to 8k and just dumping it.

that being said, whatever you do, try and keep a foot near the rear brake, its tough when you're first learning, but you have to do it. unless the inevitible loop out is what you're lookin for.
