Hello Ladies,
As you can see I'm new here. I have a few questions though.. I would really like to start riding and stop being the damn passenger.
So I am taking the classes since I do not know much about riding,.. Has anyone taken this class, is it helpful?
-What is the first bike you were taught on?
-What is the first bike you purchased?
I'm 5'2 110lbs was looking at a Ninja 250 because at this time that is what I fit on comfortably, also I feel as if it would be something I could control being a beginer at riding and always upgrade later.
I'm just nervous I will buy this small 250 and then a few months later I would want something bigger or I feel as if it's not good enough or people would laugh due to it is a such a small bike..
But hey at least I am getting the balls to even try to ride a bike. I guess as you can see I;m just confused and nervous..
Well anyones feedback would be great!
Thanks!

I guess I am crazy :) but yeah I do agree with you all of the way it is REALLY ugly, when we went last weekend to look at the 250's I kept saying does it have to be so ugly and at times I did not want to look at it 'cause it was ugly.. I guess in that matter also, why buy a bike you don't like in the looks Iwill just get mad and be like damn why didn't I this bike.. I need to get over my fears of size of the bike, just nervous I will drop the bike but I'm sure almost everyone has dropped there bike at one time or another..
I will just go to this class get on that honda rebel and learn, stop being a pu**y and go for it ;)

Def. don't get a 250! I don't reccommend a Katana either. I got one and it is like driving a cadillac. It is a turd. I only had it for a month before I wanted something more and I had never ridden a road bike before I got it. Get a good bike that you can grow in to. A 250 you will get used to and grow out of way too fast. Then you're stuck with it and unhappy. :spin:

What did you get for your first bike?
Besides of the 250 I was also thinking of.. 01 CBR F4i or a 01/02 R6
Any suggestions on a good started bike?
Thanks

OK, let me first start off by saying the 250 alto an unattractive ride is a very safe learner bike..Afterall saftey should be the most important thing to stress when learning! I will say tho that your local MSF course is taught on these 250's so that is your best bet for the jumping off point.
As far as your first purchase.. A 600cc sport will be a great long term purchase..Has enough power to pull you thro yet tame enough to keep you grounded.
Most 600's in the sport series are extreamly limber and reactive making them easy to handle and responsive to your body movements.Lowering them is easy. However, you should avoid lowering you bike if at all possible. It changes the dynamics of the bike making it harder to handle and the stearing unstable.

I took the motorcycle safety coures 2 years ago. It was a great class and very helpful, you will definately learn a lot through the class. Its definately a smart thing to take this class.
Now for advice...
First... get gear! Get good gear too. Be prepared to fall. You will drop the bike and you will probably get bruised or even hurt. Its going to happen and when it does, do not try to catch the bike, you will get hurt worse just let it fall. The first day I took out my bike I dropped it in my driveway when I got home.
Second... Buy a used bike. I bought a 2000 CBR600 F4, I did at first look the 250s and quickly decided that I would not be happy with that bike. It that is the bike that you are comfortable on then buy it. Don't look at a bike for the way it looks. Go to dealerships and sit on bikes, make sure you can comfortably touch the ground and that the sitting position is comfortable for you. Every bike sits differently, try them all out. I would not go any higher than a 600cc bike, you can always upgrade later in life.
Third... Pay attention to everything you learn in that class. And keep everything in mind. The day you no longer think that there is the possibility of getting hurt is the day you do not need to ride anymore.

Ok so I'm a little late on this post...I know I know...procrastinati :banghead: on
The class you take will teach you to ride a 250...At least thats what standard here. Fuck what the bike looks like be honest with yourself. If you finish the class and think a 250 suits you and anything bigger might be a little much then stick with the 250. I can say that one summer of riding you will be ready to upgrade.
If you want to ride...then ride...there is always time to upgrade..feel me.
Don't kill or seriously injure yourself because you want to look more cool!
As little as you are I wouldn't go any bigger than a 600. You will be suprised how content you will be with a 600. A good friend of mine was a new rider last summer. A 250 wasn't big enough but she felt that the 600 was too big. She went with a 500f and is ready to upgrade. The bike handles great and its close enough to the style of a crotch rocket that she was able to develope her riding skillz and confidence without getting hurt.
Don't worry about what everyone else has to say...fuck em'. Who cares if you spend your first year riding in the back of the pack!
Here is the 500f

It'a hard deciding which bike is best for me right now concidering I have never rode before... Everyone will have a different opinion. I was ready to buy a bike within the next couple of weeks, but I can't I have to wait and take this class and then decide what is really good for me. If I get a 600 awsome, if I get a 500 cool if I get the 250 I will have to deal with it for the time being.. If someone makes fun of me for whatever bike I have then f*ck 'em at least I am trying.. And I can say I've done something.. No one sits on there death bed saying "I wish I got this bike instead", nope they are just happy they have tried something..Ok I am just rambling on now :) I will keep you guys posted and let ya know how it all went for me.. Oh this weather here in WI needs to get nicer!

just like the said get a 600 and some sliders or cage if you drop it and just wear your gear and it will come with time and you will be ok.

So I will probly get shit for this...
Soo I bought the bike today, yes a 250.... (shame on me) I will probly feel like a jackass/pussy riding it...But I got it for $1,400 and I have to be realistic here, were saving to sell this house and build a new one and it will just make it more hectic if I did buy a bike for 5,000+ 'cause I would have to get a loan then and this I just paid cash for...
If anything I can always ride the boyfriends bike if I want more power 'cause he works so much he doesn't have all that much time for his bike..
Can't ride the bike yet, the bike has not been rode for over 1 year so it needs a tune up...
There's always another year around to upgrade..
YAY me.. now I belong with the special ed class with my 250 ! HAHA :D

Congrats on the new bike!
I learned on a 02f4i and then bought one. I am taller though 5'7" 130lbs. One thing I have always considered, if you drop your bike,... and you will,... and you are on your own, you HAVE to be able to pick it back up and even at my size I can BARELY lift my f4i. Just something to think about when your learning.

You definitely need a 600. They are great starter bikes. I am not sure how much experience you have riding, but it will seem slow in a few weeks. And to BKRGURL....I really wouldn't put my pic on my profile if I looked like that.........Damn girl, you could make Ray Charles flinch........."I am the greatest, not only will I knock you out, but I will pick the round......NBDFAC"
