01' R6 smokin?

my buddy has a R6 and when he brings it back in first and rides BP it starts to smoke after like 2 runs and starts runnin like shit for awhile .WTF is goin on with his yamerslammer? just wanted to see if anybody else had or has this problem?

If the bikes been layed down one or more times there may be some oil in the airbox that gets to the motor when up. Other than that? Dunno

I had an 02 R6 and it only smoked when I laid it down...and took abit to star back up. Other than that, never smoked running at balance point or beyond. get it checked out

yeah dude if he is over filling his oil and has laid the bike down it will be oil in the air box, or if not he has a lemon of a bike :shoot:

it will smoke if you put way to much oil in it. either that or you may have bad rings. check your oil, check your airbox(clean filter) if that doesn't work. take off your muffler, start up your bike with your hand over the exhaust rev it up and check for oil on your hand. make sure it's oil not condensation. or just have a compression test done.

The crankcase vent on the r6 is at the back top of motor and goes directly to the airbox... if the bike is at 12 for a short time oil will drain through the vent, into the airbox, go down the intake and cause the engine to smoke for a bit... if this is happening from only hitting bp he's running his oil too full. My r6 only smokes after being on the bar for a short time NOT from bp wheelies.....

take ur tank off tank the crankcase vent hose that goes to teh airbox run it into a water bottle....ziptie the water bottle to the back of ur right rear set....it will hardly fill up ...in about a yr if its full empty it back into ur crankcase...lol

thanks Z thats what i was lookin for ........... But?,he said he runs a 1/2 Qt over cause he has seen what happens to gixs and thats what most of us do(run 1/2 t0 1 Qt. over).Does he have to run over on that yammer?is the pickup in front?just woundering

The pickup is in the front of the pan. I run mine a 1/2 qt. as well.... the oil light will come on at 12 and even a full quart over wont prevent it. hopefully stuntex will come up with a pickup for the r6 soon. but as long as the light is not on your fine.
If you do the bottle thing make shure you make an opening for the air to vent from(run a hose to and from the bottle), otherwise the bottle will pressurize and the vent wont work. Try to find a thick bottle because the oil is hot and will start to melt the plastic.

yah jsut run a 1/2 , 3/4 quart ova only a very small amount leaks out the hose into the bottle

My 636 smoked in 12:00 when I started but quit and now it started again, WTF. My pairvalve has been removed from the airbox and I do run oil at the top of the window but didn't use to and it still did it. It looks like oil is seeping out of my head gasket on the left. But it only smokes when I'm draggin the bar real slow at low rpms.
