Build your own cage. Thats what im doing for my 929. I cant justify spending nearly 300$ after shipping on a product that consists of only a few feet of tubing, and some very basic welds. I bought some thickwall pipe, and started building my cage from there. Take a look around on the internet and get ideas from pics of other peoples pre-built cages. Mine will be triangulated, similar to a 905 cage. On the ends of the pipes, where they will actually be bolted to the bike, i took rather thick steel washers, and welded them to the ends. Now i can slide a grade 10.5 Allen head bolt in place of the stock bolts (allen heads allow me to tighten them down, since the tubing i am using is rather small, and wont allow a regular hex head socket to fit). Then just sandblast it and paint it, or powdercoat it. I'll be painting mine with a spray in bed liner, simply because its more durable, and will add grip when standing on the cage.

make some long assssss frame sliders out of thick piping ...just drill a hole so you can mount them to your bike, not the best idea but works for now and mad cheap to

TongWoo
04-27-2005, 12:55 PM
Man, just get you some extended frame sliders, go to PetSmart,...pick up a couple Kong chew toys and put them on the end of the sliders...Presto! You're money....And you'll look cool, too...

I saw some dude with a cage made out of re-bar. It actually looked pretty cool, he had it painted chrome... it was NEAT. You could see all the ridges in the re-bar shining all crazy in the sun light.

I am in the process of making my own cage as well. what size tubing did you use and did you bolt or weld the 12 bar to the subframe?

Bolt to the sub frame is what we used on the hates bike it seems to work good i had a 905 cage dropped it from a parked 12 and walla i need a new case not cover but the case!!!

looks like a 905 cage have you crashed on it yet? if so the 905 stuff will ony take a few crashes, then the bars are bent in to the motor the next crash after that will fuck shit up. my.02$

for the {T} pipe off the frame it's like 2.5'' the down bar slips into the {T} pipe and then a bolt holds it in place, that way if you fuck up a {T} pipe of a down tube you can replace one piece not the hole thing .I then went to a plumbing store and got 2.5"ID thick rubber cuppeler that flare up to a 4'' and clamped that to the {T} pipe this works like a shock then you wreck it takes the impact of the fall it works better then I 1st thought it would ... as for the 12 bar {like crash said} it we used a bolt on each side then 2 clamps on each side for mounting...

yeah i crashed the shit out of it the first day i had it doing a second gear stand up ...fuckin thing flip 2 times into a bush...not a scratch on the bike....and the cage held up like none other...paid for itself first day...im telling you that thing is like a powers on steriods...wont bend or anything....and the mxd is made so you wont hit your shins.....you will hit your plastics before the bar....great cage and great customer service...it came with sliders as well....like 225 powder coated.....call jeff he is the owner if your interested...he is a real cool guy.

for an easy fix right now go get some bmx bike pegs, and bolt them on where frame sliders go, maybe get some derlin and bolt it to the ends, make sure to get some weak bolts tho, that way the bolts bend rather then snap, it'll tide u over for a while
